Deep Brain Stimulation is used most often to treat tremor, mainly from Parkinson’s Disease and Essential Tremor.
Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) is a procedure where the brain is implanted with an Implanted Pulse Generator (IPG), which is essentially a pacemaker for the brain. The generator produces electrical impulses that regulate abnormal impulses in the areas of the brain that affect movement.
Multiple large studies published in the New England Journal of Medicine, Journal of the American Medical Association, and Journal of Movement Disorders have shown that Deep Brain Stimulation is superior to the best medical therapy in treatment of tremor.
